WEEDSPORT, NY (October 19, 2023) – Weedsport Kartway’s Octoberfest Weekend not only saw more than $14,000 in cash and contingencies awarded to racers, it also settled track championship battles in eight divisions.
Starting in June, drivers in five junior divisions and three senior divisions battled across six events in the Slack Karts Super Kart Series at Weedsport, presented by Pit Stop Convenience Stores.
The Jr. Red Clone division, which sees racers between the ages of 5-7 in action, saw complete domination by Ryan Barry, who went on to score six wins on the year. Barry managed to score the championship by 22-points over Bryson Gill, August Bassett, Lily Walters and Nolan Schroy.
Jr. Green Clone features drivers aged 7-9 years old and saw Austin Silvernail use three main event victories to top Derek Bird in the overall championship. Mason Sharts, Lyle Robinson and Luke Holmes completed the top five in the race for the title.
The Jr. Purple Clone division, set for drivers 9-13 years old, saw another dominating performance on the year by Levi Herriven. Herriven scored four feature wins to collect the championship by 45-points over Jackson Welling and Micheal Hugg. Timmy Axton and Loik Robertson filled the top five spots.
Drivers aged 12-15 years old compete in Jr. Blue Clone and it was Riley Begy showing the way to the track championship on the strength of five main event wins during the season. Begy managed a comfortable 42-point edge on Ayden Silvernail, Jacob Schulz, Dylan Clemons and Logran Brown.
The oldest of the junior divisions is Jr. Unrestricted, meant for racers 13-15 years old. Again, it was Begy finishing on top with three feature scores. This time, however, Begy took the title by a slim 12-point margin over Clemons, Aidan McCollister, Kason Fry and Jack Hutton.
In the senior ranks it was Seth Whitney scoring double championships in Clone Light and Clone Heavy. Whitney took five total main event wins between the two classes and topped Dave Foti in each class for two track titles. Nigel Pendykoski, David Hackett and Trent Smith trailed in Light, while Jamie Shutts, Smith and Jared John filled the top five in Heavy.
Clone Super Heavy featured the closest championship battle of the season with Nick Tryt edging Jared John by only 2-points. William Young, Eddie Mitchell and Colin Spatorico completed the top five.
