WEEDSPORT, NY (June 17, 2024) – For the second time in his career, Tanner Emmons is a PRO Clone 360 winner at Weedsport Kartway. Emmons led all 30-laps of the $1,000 to win Pencils Down Showdown on Sunday, earning his fifth career win at the Short Port.
After earning the Precision Racing Products pole award, worth $100, Emmons started up front and never looked back on his way to victory. A number of late race cautions gave his closest rivals Riley Begy and Seth Whitney a shot at the win, but Emmons proved to be too much in the late going.
Whitney, who swept Weedsport’s opening weekend in April, settled for second ahead of defending Octoberfest champion, Trent Smith, Daniel Osborne and Mitchell Schreffler in the top five.
In an exciting twist, all three senior points divisions on Sunday saw first time winners.
Eric Jewett proved to be the driver to beat in Clone Super Heavy, topping April winners Jordan Sullivan and William Young. Jewett has been a longtime supporter of the Super Heavy division at Weedsport.
Mike Farina earned his first career Weedsport win in Clone Heavy, beating out Chris Natoli, Whitney, Emmons and Smith.
Heading into the weekend, Riley Begy was a 12-time winner at Weedsport, but all of those wins had come in the junior ranks. On Sunday, Begy snagged his first senior division win as he crossed the line ahead of Whitney, Emmons, Paige Smith and Jack Hutton in Clone Light.
Harloe Russell was a fourth first time winner on the day, as he took the win in a large field of 12 Jr. Red Clones. Russell crossed the line ahead of Russell Trickey, Clark McGruder, Brantley Smith and Cole Pike.
Mason Sharts took advantage of a tangle between race leaders Ryan Barry and Luke Holmes to win Jr. Green Clone. Liam Pakenham, Lily Walters, Mason Simmons and Holmes filled the top five.
Levi Herriven flew to yet another win in Jr. Purple Clone. Herriven was chased by Tylor Herzog, Jackson Welling, Olivia Barry and Chandler Remp.
Joey Surman went two for two on the day, winning both Jr. Blue Clone and Jr. Unrestricted.
Surman bested Parker Allen, Troy Hutton, Annabelle Francisco and Timmy Axton in Blue while topping Axton, Savannah Simmons and Hutton in Unrestricted.
Weedsport Kartway returns to action with the Slack Karts Super Kart Series on Sunday, July 21 for the Summer Nationals. The day’s action will consist of points racing for the kartway’s eight main divisions, as well as a 30-lap, $1,000 to win PRO Clone 360 main.
Pits gates will open on July 21 at 8:30 a.m. with hot laps slated for 11 a.m. and heat racing at Noon. Pre-Registration for the weekend is now available via the Kart Pass app.
