The long-awaited return of the Big-Block modifieds to Weedsport Speedway is finally upon us. Thursday August 7th the Big-Blocks return for the Super Dirt Series Hall of Fame 100, along with the Sportsman and the Midstate Antique Stock Car Club. Wednesday August 6th at 7 p.m. will be the annual DIRTcar Hall of Fame induction ceremony recognizing the careers of Lloyd Holt, Charlie Rudolph, and Mike Colsten.
August 7th will be action packed, seeing the best Big-Block modified drivers compete for the $10,000 purse that will be given out to the winner of the Hall of Fame 100. On top of the massive payout to win, Weedsport will also be paying $500 just for taking the green.
“This is one of the tracks I started racing at. I have had a lot of laps, and a lot of success there, really looking forward to getting back there,” said Big-Block driver Justin Haers on returning to Weedsport.
The sportsman class will also be on tap for a 20-lap feature, returning to The Port for a second time this season after putting on a tremendous show on July 27th. Fans that did not come out on the 27th will be in for a huge surprise upon arrival. Brand new grandstands and luxury boxes, updates to the infield, re-positioning of the pits, and top class concessions will be some of the new features fans will be able to enjoy.
Haers added on the updates to the grounds, “I am interested in seeing the facility and the upgrades. After seeing all of these pictures online it really makes me eager to see the updates and change in person. I know the track will be great as always, and I am sure there will be a huge crowd.”
Track general manager Jim Phelps added, “We’re looking forward to having a facility that’s real comfortable for the fans. The excitement level, whether it be from the racing community or from the local community, has been wonderful.”
The excitement level will be even higher with the addition of a pre-race performance by Dixie Dirt from 5- 6:15 p.m. All fans will also receive a promotional item courtesy of Weedsport Speedway upon entry to the event.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Wednesday, August 6th at 7 p.m. Lloyd Holt, a legend at Waterloo Maple Grove Speedway, Charlie Rudolph – who ranks among the top 40 all time in Big-Block wins, and Mike Colsten – a historic Late Model driver will all be recognized for their achievements through the unveiling of their newly added portraits at the Hall.
Hall of Fame 100 race night will have racing begin at 7 p.m., with pit gates open at 4 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. Pit admission for members will be $30, and $35 for non-members.
