WEEDSPORT, NY (April 23, 2024) – Nearly 200 weekend entries kicked off Weedsport Kartway’s 2024 season last weekend with Seth Whitney, of Adams, NY, winning a total of six main events to claim $3,200 in prize money.
Whitney’s perfect weekend gives him a total of 17 career senior wins at The Short Port, trailing only Jared John.
With points wins in Clone Light and Clone Heavy during Saturday and Sunday action, Whitney also secured PRO Clone 360 victories worth $1,000 and $2,000 respectively. Sunday’s 40-lap PRO triumph was the North Country driver’s first score of $2,000 since he made the jump to the senior ranks in 2021.
In Saturday night’s PRO main, Whitney crossed the line in second position, but was awarded the win after Jared John failed post-race inspection. Tanner Emmons, Trent Smith, Riley Begy and Jack Hutton would fill the official top five in PRO on Saturday evening.
Sunday afternoon would see Whitney lead from green to checkered for his first $2,000 payday over Mike Seefeldt, Mike Farina, Aidan Seefeldt and Smith.
Whitney was also awarded the Precision Racing Products $100 fast time award for each PRO main.
Whitney was not the only driver to sweep the weekend as brothers Levi and Bryson Herriven also achieved the feat in junior action.
Levi, the winningest junior racer in Weedsport history, took both main event wins on the weekend in Jr. Purple Clone, while Bryson swept Jr. Red Clone to give him three career wins at Weedsport.
Other junior winners included Joey Surman (Jr. Blue & Jr. Unrestricted), first time winners Liam Pakenham (Jr. Green Clone) and Troy Hutton (Jr. Blue & Jr. Unrestricted), as well as Luke Holmes (Jr. Green Clone).
Clone Super Heavy also saw two first time winners on the weekend as William Young took the checkered on Saturday, with Jordan Sullivan claiming the victory on Sunday.
Weedsport Kartway returns to action with the Slack Karts Super Kart Series on Sunday, May 5 with the annual running of Kart Cup. The day’s action will consist of points racing for the kartway’s eight main divisions, as well as a 35-lap, $1,500 to win PRO Clone 360 main.
Pits gates will open on May 5 at 8:30 a.m. with hot laps slated for 11 a.m. and heat racing at Noon. Pre-Registration for the weekend is now available via the Kart Pass app.
Racers are also encouraged to take advantage of an open practice at the kartway, which will be held on Wednesday, May 1. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with track time schedule to begin at 6 p.m. Driver participation is $20 with all other pit entrants set at $10.
