WEEDSPORT, NY (July 15, 2024) – Weedsport Speedway played host to Hall of Fame Weekend on Sunday, presented by Ryan Phelps Auto Sales, with Nicholas Root leading the way for his second DIRTcar Sportsman win of the season at The Port, while Pete Coffey topped a stout field of NY6A Micro Sprint competitors.
With a full field of DIRTcar Sportman racers in action on Sunday it was Root narrowly showing the way for the second time this season over Emmett Waldron. The 25-lap event, which paid $1,000 to win, took just under 10-minutes to run to completion with Root edging Waldron by only .283-seconds at the line.
Root and Waldron were the class of the field on this night as they distanced themselves by more than 3-seconds over third place finisher Cody McPherson, Cody Manitta and Mike Fowler in the top five. Finishing the top ten were Tony Finch, Richard Murtaugh, Derrick McGrew Jr., Brett Senek and Zach Sobotka.
Root, McPherson, Waldron and Sobotka will now all battle for high point honors at Weedsport with only the Sportsman Classic remaining on the 2024 schedule on Saturday, September 7.
Heat wins on Sunday went to McPherson, Murtaugh and Fowler.
A massive field of 30 NY6A Micro Sprints took to Weedsport on Sunday and it was Pete Coffey winning in an epic duel over Chad Phelps. Coffey snagged the lead late in the going to collect the $400 victory in a battle through lapped traffic. Phelps would settle for second ahead of Johnny Smith, Mikey Smith and Zach Bobbet in the front five positions.
Ivan Forney, Eric Wise, Wayne Stella, Eric Wise and Cameron Wise were the top ten runners.
Heat victories went to Phelps, Johnny Smith and Cameron Wise.
