WEEDSPORT, NY (July 29, 2024) – The largest crowd in Weedsport Speedway history witnessed Mat Williamson claim yet another Modified win at The Port on Sunday, as the driver of the No. 6 cruised to a 6.5-second victory worth $3,000 as part of the Empire State Challenge.
The victory marks Williamson’s third Modified win at Weedsport in 2024 backing up a win in the Heroes Remembered 100 on Memorial Day Weekend and the Ferris Mowers 50 in early June.
Starting from the outside of the front row following a 9-car redraw, Williamson assumed command early and never looked back in the green-to-checkered 50-lap main over Tim Sears Jr., Jimmy Phelps, Alex Payne and Dalton Slack.
The top ten finishers included Dave Marcuccilli, Darren Smith, Chris Hile, Larry Wight and Anthony Perrergo.
A total of 23 Big Block Modifieds made their way through the Weedsport gates on Sunday with Williamson, Sheppard and Todd Root scoring qualifying heat wins.
The Big Block Modifieds will be part of both days of action during Stirling Lubricants Cavalcade Cup Weekend at Weedsport on September 7-8. The Super DIRTcar Series will headline action on September 7 with the DIRTcar Big Blocks joining the ESS Sprint Cars on September 8.
