The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) are bringing down a big four race weekend with the newly scheduled 360 Open at the ultra-modern Weedsport Speedway. With scheduling conflicts and weather postponing the first two races planned, it was agreed to bring the winged warriors back and to share the card with the Super DirtCar Series Big Block Modifieds.
It’s billed as the Labor Day Double Play, fans will get to see the two most popular divisions in the North East. The beloved DirtCar big block modifieds and the winged ESS 360 sprint cars on the same card!
“We are really proud that Jimmy Phelps reached out to us to be a part of this show that wasn’t originally planned,” said ESS President Chuck Miller. “After our first two shows didn’t work out, our teams were really set back. Weedsport is one of our favorites and we now share the bill with the Big Block Series. I think the fans will be in for a treat!”
With the late scheduling of the race it was made as a non-points event but will clone an entire ESS night with timed hot laps, heats, dash, B-Main all leading up to the now 30 lap A-Main. A purse increase is being offered from a normal ESS full point event with $2,000 to win and $300 to start. Competitors should note that all ESS contingencies will be honored and no ESS license will be required.
All the ESS stars and cars are expected to be on hand with Steve Poirier, Jason Barney and Chuck Hebing leading the way to the Cayuga County Fairgrounds. Paul Kinney, Matt Tanner, Parker Evans, Jeff Cook, Shawn Donath, Bryan Howland, Danny Varin, Dave Axton will be looking to cap off the long holiday weekend. With the special event, several non-ESS regulars are looking to be in the field such as Mark Smith, Cory Turner, Steve Collins, Coleman Gulick and others.
A special treat will also see the induction of Dick Carbery and Don McGee to the ESS Hall of Fame with the “hanging of the plaques” being performed at the Dirt Motorsports Hall of Fame building. Doors will swing open at 2 with Carbery and McGee taking to the podium at 3.
