WEEDSPORT, NY (June 1, 2022) – A late race restart gave Cody McPherson the opportunity he needed to land on Victory Hill on Sunday evening at Weedsport Speedway, topping a field of 45 DIRTcar Sportsman for a $1,000 triumph.
Noah Walker started from the front row and dominated the event for 23-laps, before a late yellow for a stopped Brett Senek bunched the field for a green-white-checkered restart.
McPherson was then able to launch from the outside of the speedway on the event’s last lap to push his Lucky No. 7 by the No. 22 of Walker, to claim the win by leading just one circuit.
Matt Janczuk was also able to slip by Walker to finish in the runner-up position, with Walker taking third ahead of Tyler Corcoran and Chris Mackey.
Janczuk, who started deep in the field after not making a time trial run in his No. 33X, made an impressive drive to land on the podium.
Jordan Millard, AJ Miller, Mike Fowler, Will Shields and Brad Rouse filled the top ten positions in the first DIRTcar Sportsman event of the season at Weedsport.
Heat race wins went to Corcoran, Millard, Richard Murtaugh, Zach Sobotka and Walker.
Last Chance events were won by Senek and Ryan Shanahan.
