WEEDSPORT, NY (May 28, 2024) – Weedsport Speedway’s Heroes Remembered opener on Sunday saw two first time winners with Jordan Hutton taking the win in the CRSA Sprints main event, while Nicholas Root topped a stout field of DIRTcar Sportsman.
A record 42 CRSA Sprints made their way through the pit gates at Weedsport, but it was Hutton that would find his way to the top of Victory Hill after taking the lead with 11 laps to go when Bobby Parrow’s rear end broke.
Following a caution for Parrow, Hutton would drive off uncontested for a more than 2-second victory over Jeff Trombley, Scott Landers, Dillon Paddock and Johnny Smith.
While the win was Hutton’s first at Weedsport, it marked his 10th career CRSA victory and his second of the 2024 season. The victory gives Hutton a 9-point edge on Trombley in the season standings with Tomy Moreau, Dalton Herrick and Ron Greek just behind.
Shawn Donath, Billy VanInwegen, Zach Sobotka, Herrick and Adam Depuy filled the top ten on Sunday in the CRSA Sprints 25-lap main. Heat race wins went to Moreau, Parrow, Landers and Depuy, while B-Main wins went to Mike Kiser and Greek.
The DIRTcar Sportsman pit area saw 34 cars on hand and when all was said and done it was Nicholas Root firing from the pole position to snag his first ever Weedsport victory.
Root was able to fend off the advances of veterans Cody McPherson, Emmett Waldron, Gavin Eisele and Zach Sobotka to score the 25 lap main event victory. Chasing the top five was Cody Manitta, Kyle Devendorf, James Friesen, Adam Leslie and Tony Finch II.
Qualifying heat wins went to Root, Devendorf, Friesen and Jason Parkhurst Jr. Kasey Coffey scored the win in the last chance event.
Root’s win was his first of the DIRTcar season and moves him to fourth in the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship standings following four top five efforts in six starts this season. McPherson and Sobotka, who have each scored three DIRTcar wins this year, ride second and third in the Hoosier standings behind Zach Buff.
