WEEDSPORT, NY (May 30, 2023) – While Mat Williamson dominated the Super DIRTcar Series Heroes Remembered 100 at Weedsport Speedway on Sunday, it was Billy VanInwegen and Matt Janzcuk topping Victory Hill in support action over the holiday weekend.
VanInwegen would go on to best a record-tying 33 CRSA Sprint Cars in the opening round of the Pit Stop Convenience Stores I-90 Challenge, while Janczuk cruised to a 3.265-second win in the DIRTcar Sportsman main event.
From the sixth starting position, Billy V wasted little time, eventually taking the race lead on lap 9 of the 25-lap affair for the 305 Sprints. A late race yellow gave Dillon Paddock, who started ninth in the main, a shot at the win. However, VanInwegen proved too tough as he ran away to the victory, becoming the first driver to win multiple CRSA events at Weedsport.
Paddock had a fine run in second with Jordan Hutton, Bobby Parrow and Darryl Ruggles filling the top five. Dalton Herrick, Mike Kiser, Tomy Moreau, Chad Miller and Ethan Gray were the top ten finishers.
Qualifying wins went to Paddock, Hutton, Parrow and Miller with Adam Depuy topping the B-Main.
More than 30 DIRTcar Sportsman were also in action on Sunday with Matt Janczuk putting together a near perfect night, as he raced to the 25-lap win from the pole position.
Janczuk set fast time in his qualifying group, finished second in his heat race and redrew the pole position to lead every lap on his way to the main event win. Zach Sobotka, Mike Fowler, Brett Senek and Nicholas Root chased Janczuk to the wire followed by Emmet Waldron, Cady Manitta, Phil Vigneri, Gavin Eisele and Kyle Devendorf.
Weedsport Speedway will return to action on Sunday, July 16 with the Super DIRTcar Series Hall of Fame 100 along with DIRTcar Sportsman and 600cc Micro Sprints.
Pit gates will open on July 16 at 4 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 5 p.m. and on track action taking the green at 7 p.m.
