Beyea Custom Headers Sportsman Shootout Series Joins the Card
WEEDSPORT, NY (May 31, 2017) – After two failed attempts to go racing in mid-May, Weedsport Speedway is ready for its season opener this Sunday, June 4 with the Big Block/Small Block Challenge presented by Big Dog Country 103.5 FM.
Among the drivers looking to claim the $3,000 top prize on Sunday is Modified legend Brett Hearn.
Hearn, who was fully prepared to take on the Weedsport oval back on May 22 with the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds, is ready to return this Sunday to Weedsport and claim the winner’s share of the night’s purse.
Having entered 13 races so far this season, Hearn has visited victory lane four times to this point in the year, most recently at Lebanon Valley Speedway on May 27. The victory was Hearn’s 897th career win leaving the potential for win number 900 on June 4 at Weedsport, should Hearn manage to find victory lane at both Albany Saratoga on Friday and yet again at Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
The eight-time Super DIRTcar Series champion will have to go up against a host of other top shoes at Weedsport however, in order to find his way to Victory Hill.
One of those drivers is western New York’s Erick Rudolph, who will once again pilot his own Mohawk Northeast No. 25 machine on Sunday at The Port.
Rudolph nearly won the Hall of Fame 100 at Weedsport last season against the Super DIRTcar Series Big Blocks, driving a Small Block.
Returning to Weedsport in October for Super DIRT Week, Rudolph promptly found victory lane in the Super DIRTcar Series 358-Modified main, earning his first career win at the 3/8 mile oval joining his father Charlie Rudolph on the all-time Weedsport win list.
Other Modified shoes expected in the pit area Sunday include Justin Haers, Billy Decker, Gary Tomkins, Max McLaughlin, Peter Britten, and more.
Qualifying heats for the Big Block/Small Block Challenge will be lined up by draw with top qualifiers in the heat races redrawing for feature starting position.
Modifieds competing with a DIRTcar legal Big Block and any NON DIRTcar legal Spec 358 engine must weight 2500lbs.
Those running a DIRTcar legal 358 (must run legal spec intake, exhaust, rev box, and carb) can weigh at 2400lbs.
Gasoline only will be permitted – no methanol.
Competitors must use the DIRTcar Hoosier 300 compound with the option for a 400 right rear compound.
Traditional northeast body rules only. No sail panels allowed.
Raceceiver radios mandatory.
Joining the Big Block/Small Block Challenge will be the opening round of the Beyea Custom Headers Sportsman Shootout Series, as the Sportsman racers begin their battle for the track championship.
Pit gates will open on Sunday at 3 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 4 p.m. Hot laps will get underway at 5:30 p.m. with opening ceremonies set for 6 p.m. For more information on the Big Block/Small Block Challenge visit online at www.weedsportspeedway.com.
