The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints are set to continue their 2015 season this Sunday night at the Weedsport Speedway. It is the first time since July of 2011 that the series has visited the historic facility. On that night four years ago it was Empire Super Sprint legend Lance Yonge picking up the victory.
The doctor was in the house for much of the night at Weedsport Speedway Thursday night, but in the end, the Hall of Fame 100 came down to a battle between teammates. “The Doctor” Danny Johnson dominated the 100-lap Super DIRTcar Series event, but series points leader Matt Sheppard took the lead in the second half of the race and held off Heinke Baldwin Racing teammate Jimmy Phelps to pick up the win.
As the defending winner of the Hall of Fame 100 at Weedsport Speedway, Billy Decker comes into the Thursday, Aug. 6 event hoping to gain some ground in the Super DIRTcar Series championship battle.
For much of the event, Sunday’s Sportsman Classic at Weedsport Speedway appeared as if it would end much like last year’s inaugural race. After jumping out to the lead at the one-third mark of the 75-lap feature, James Michael Friesen looked headed to a repeat his victory last year with another win on the way at the two-thirds mark.

From setting the fastest time in time trials with a new track record to winning his qualifying heat race and picking the pole in the redraw, the Zebulon, Georgia racer led the Finger Lakes 40 flag-to-flag and came out on top in everything when the World of Outlaws Late Model Series completed its Great Northern Tour.
The World of Outlaw Late Models continue their ‘Great Northern Tour’ on Tuesday, June 23 as they head to the Weedsport Speedway for the Finger Lakes 40. The race is event number three of their trip through the Northeast and the third time in the history of the traveling organization that they have visited the one-third mile oval.
Attention Race Teams and Fans: The Route 34 bridge immediately south of the NYS Thruway Weedsport – Auburn – NY Route 34 Exit 40 is under repair with one lane access via stop light. This will cause delays in the traffic pattern.
For Tim McCreadie, Weedsport Speedway is turning into “a small Taj Mahal.” The Watertown racer said the old Weedsport track was a great racing venue, but he credited owner Allan Heinke and manager Jimmy Phelps with having both the racing knowledge and the financial wherewithal to make it even better.
The second running of the annual Sportsman Classic presented by Industrial Tire of CNY will highlight Independence Day Weekend at the Weedsport Speedway. One of the highly anticipated and richest Sportsman events in the northeast is set to take the green on Sunday, July 5th at 7:00PM.
