WEEDSPORT, NY (May 23, 2024) – Weedsport Speedway and the Super DIRTcar Series are asking the race fans in attendance this Sunday to help them honor and remember ‘Barefoot’ Bob McCreadie during lap 9 of the Heroes Remembered 100.
The first 1,500 fans through the main gate on May 26 will receive a commemorative chloroplast placard, which will read ‘Remembering Barefoot’ and will display the famous McCreadie colors and No. 9. During lap 9 of the 100-lap main event, fans will be asked to stand and proudly display their placard high in the sky, in a moment of broadcast silence as the sound of big blocks fill the air in memory of McCreadie.
“Bob is a true legend of motorsports and a hero to so many in the industry,” said Weedsport Speedway promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “The mark he left on the sport of dirt modified racing cannot be quantified and will never be forgotten. We wanted to do something a little extra special in his memory this weekend and thanks to Pilat Graphic Design and the Super DIRTcar Series we have been able to partner to offer fans a ‘Remembering Barefoot’ keepsake that will help to honor Bob on lap 9 of our main event on Sunday.”
A four-time Modified champion (’85, ’90, ’94, ’97) at Weedsport, McCreadie visited victory lane a total of 64 times between 1983 and 2004, and more importantly captured the hearts of thousands of race fans along the way.
Hailing from Watertown, NY, McCreadie was inducted into the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame in 2006 and is an inductee into the Charlotte Motor Speedway Walk of Fame and the Eastern Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame.
