WEEDSPORT, NY (November 27, 2019) – Weedsport Kartway officials announced on Wednesday that all entered junior competitors will compete in a main event at The Short Port in 2020.
In order to ensure that all junior drivers get quality track time, fields will be split when there is a large number of entries, meaning no B-Mains will be contested in points paying events this coming season.
“We’re making this move for two reasons, really,” said Weedsport Speedway promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “First, we want to make sure all of our young drivers get as many laps on track as possible. Second, we want to ensure that those laps are quality laps. We ran into some instances in 2019 where we simply had too many karts on track and we recognized that. We think this will be a positive move in terms of helping our young racers continue to grow and learn, as well as helping to manage our races.”
Field size limits have been set for each junior class individually in 2020.
In Jr. Red Clone and Jr. Green Clone, more than eight entries will see a split field.
The Jr. Purple Clone division will run a split field at eleven entries or more.
Jr. Blue Clone races with more than twelve entries will run a split field, while Jr. Unrestricted events with more than fourteen entries will run a split format.
Lineups for split format events will still be determined by two-lap time trials.
All karts will time trial as a group with the fast timer to start on the pole position in the first feature. The second fastest qualifier will start on the pole position in the second feature. Third fastest will start second in the first feature with fourth fastest starting second in the second feature and so on.
Split format events will receive half points; 50 points to the winner.
In the event of a split feature on the final night of the points season, feature groupings will be determined by point standings to ensure that championship contenders compete against each other.
PRO Blue Clone and PRO Jr. Unrestricted main events will not see split formats and will run B-Mains if needed.
A season ending celebration for all Weedsport Kartway members will be announced in the coming weeks at www.weedsportspeedway.com, as well as the full 2020 schedule.
