Last Call at the Port Weekend Sportsman action will pick up where it left off in the spring of 2016. The 2016 Sportsman season opener will start with the remaining portion of rain shortened sportsman program. One consultation race will need to be completed to set the field for the holdover portion of the event. At the conclusion of the 40 lap event, qualifying will begin for a second Sportsman show.
Although we did everything we possibly could in order to run the Super DIRTcar Series All Ways 150, unexpected late morning rain pushed the ability to begin track prep to a point where we felt we could not recover, and today’s events were cancelled. After careful consideration we feel there are no available dates to reschedule. Therefore, the show is considered complete.
Mother Nature prevailed in Saturday night’s portion of Last Call at the Port Weekend at Weedsport Speedway, with rain and wind forcing officials to postpone Super DIRTcar Series and Upstate Sportsman Alliance events. The action will resume Sunday, Oct. 25 with grandstands and ticketing opening at noon and racing starting at 1 p.m.
Jimmy Phelps and Steve Bernard both climbed up Weedsport Speedway’s victory hill Friday night, but they each took a different route to get there – figuratively and literally, as their racecars faced nose-to-nose on top of the infield mound.
The exciting Crate Sportsman division will battle for the last time in 2015 during Last Call Weekend on Saturday, October 24th. The Upstate Sportsman Alliance Championship will be presented by St. Lawrence Radiology. With a $2,000 winner’s purse it will be sure to bring out the best Sportsman competitors the northeast has to offer.
Weedsport Speedway hosted the Super DIRT Week kickoff party Wednesday, and it was Danny Johnson who crashed Brett Hearn’s party during the 75-lap small-block modified feature. Hearn dominated the DIRTcar 358 Modified event that served as the first racing action of the 44th annual Super DIRT Week, leading nearly 50 laps until Johnson caught him in the closing laps and pulled away for the victory.
